Theme
What is the author trying to say in this story? What is his lesson in life?
Is there a moral to this story? I think the lesson is to accept your life and try to make it better.

This is a story about (courage? working hard? doing the right thing? greed? importance of friends? jealousy? love? caring? happiness? sadness?) Courage, doing the right thing, love, and importance of friends.
This book showed me/I learned from this story: How I should be thankful that my life is as good as it is.
State a problem in the story and how it was solved: Jennifer’s dad harasses her and Dillon helps catch him so they can turn him into the police.
Summary of the story (list up to 6 events that happened in the story; keep them in order):
1. Dillon’s brother, Preston, kills himself after having a motorcycle accident and losing his legs and starts taking drugs.
2. Jennifer Lawless wins a major basketball game, but gets injured by another girl crashing into her legs and Jen’s head slamming against the floor.
3. Jennifer Flashbacks to the first time she met T.B., her stepdad that harasses her.
4. Dillon takes a chance and asks Jennifer on a date and they meet up with Preston’s old girlfriend to eat. On the way in the car with Jen, Dillon finally learns what Jennifer’s stepdad has been doing to her. Then, at the Diner, Stacey confesses that her so called adopted brother is really Stacy’s and Preston’s son.
5. Jennifer runs out of one of her basketball games, and Dillon runs after her. Dillon chased her to the bridge, which she was planning to jump off of to end her life. Dillon caught her right when she jumped off, by her basketball shorts and pulled her up. He pulled her up and she said that her mom was pregnant by T.B. and that’s why she was going to jump.
6. Dillon rented a night vision camera to put into Jennifer’s room to catch T.B. harassing her. Once they got the videos, Dillon threatened T.B. that he would show people the videos if he didn’t leave Jennifer’s family. T.B. left but once Jennifer figured out what Dillon had done, she asked for the videos and turned them into the police. T.B. was arrested.

Dear Jennifer,
How’s life??? I bet it has gotten a lot better since the police took your abusive stepdad away. Has your baby sister been born yet? I hope you’re doing okay. So how’s basketball going? From what I read, you sound like an amazing player. My favorite sport is basketball, too. I hope your taking good care of your mom. Don’t let her go and get another boyfriend, especially with another baby on the way. How’s Dillon? I’m guessing he still wants to take your relationship together to the next level. Ha ha. Well keep your head up and keep playing basketball!
Sincerely,Paige
