Theme
What is the author trying to say in this story? What is his lesson in life?
Is there a moral to this story? Even if you aren’t the richest person you can still do anything.
This is a story about (courage? working hard? doing the right thing? greed? importance of friends? jealousy? love? caring? happiness? sadness?) Doing the right thing
This book showed me/I learned from this story: It doesn’t matter how much money you have
State a problem in the story and how it was solved: The penguins could not live in the hot spring so Mr. Popper took stuff out of the basement and put a freezing plant in it.

Award Won
Newbery

Dear Mr. Popper,
How are you and your family? I’m very swell as of now. I’m in school and I play in the band. I thought it was very extraordinary how you could keep 12 penguins in your house even through hard times. And that you convinced Mrs. Popper to play the piano for the penguins.
How are your children are they sad the penguins have left I would be. I hope that they had fun with them. I would’ve had fun especially when it snowed. Well that’s about all for now.

With Love,
Melanie
