WAITING FOR NORMAL by Leslie Connor
Addie is a young girl who is dealing with more than her fair share of hardships. As if being dyslexic isn’t hard enough, Addie must parent herself because her erratically behaved mother can’t seem to get her life under control. Mommers has a history of all things irresponsible: she once left Addie, who was nine at the time, and her baby sisters alone for three days in Addie’s care. Addie’s ex-step-father has tried to become her sole care giver, but the courts will not allow it because he is not biologically related to her. Addie makes the best of her difficult life by befriending the pair who run the convenience store next to where her travel trailer’s parking spot. Her ability to foster relationships with those who have her best interest in mind and to push herself to be her best make her a fantastic heroine for young people.
