SAVVY by Ingrid Law
The unique Beaumont family has a fantastic secret: when each member reaches his or her thirteenth birthday their “savvy” is awaited. Her oldest brother has a talent for electricity and Fish has power over water, but does not have control over it yet. Mibs doesn’t fit in at school and is eagerly awaiting her home school time that occurs when a savvy nears. As Mibs Beaumont approaches her thirteenth birthday, she goes on an unexpected journey in hopes to save her father who has been in a terrible car accident. She feels as if her hoped savvy may be something that can save her father’s life. Two of her brothers, one who also has a dangerous talent, and the preacher’s kids who reluctantly accompany her are taken on a wild ride with an unsuspecting bible salesman where they meet up with some seedy characters and some others who end up being great friends to the kids. Not only the Beaumont family’s children grow during this adventure, but the preacher’s kids also learn a lot about the strange kids and themselves.
