THE BLACKER THE BERRY by Joyce Carol Thomas illustrator Floyd Cooper
This collection of twelve poems celebrates the diversity of African-American heritage by showing the many varieties of color that they have. Through a mix of African heritage and everything from Seminole to Irish there is a celebration of the differences of the African –American race. Cooper uses a method of art that draws the images out of the pages and shows the happiness of the children depicted in the book.
